Mumbai, November 19 (Language) Two people have been arrested for raping a 19-year-old college student in the Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC) quarters in Mumbai. The accused allegedly committed the crime after mixing intoxicating substance in a soft drink and making the victim drink it. Police gave this information on Sunday.
A police officer said that this incident took place in Chembur’s Postal Colony in Ram between Wednesday and Thursday.
He said that the victim lives in the quarter allotted to her father who works in BARC. The officer said his father lives elsewhere due to work responsibilities.
The officer said that a 26-year-old accused also lives in the same building as the victim as his father also works in BARC. The accused and the victim know each other.
When the family members of the accused had gone somewhere, he called a friend of his at his residence on Wednesday night.
The officer said the accused needed an ‘induction cooking system’ to cook food. He called the victim and asked her to bring ‘induction cooking’ equipment.
The victim went to the accused’s house, stayed there for some time and talked to the accused and his friend.
Later, the accused gave her soft drinks which were laced with intoxicants. The officer said the victim became unconscious after consuming the beverage.
He said that the accused and his friend allegedly raped the student.
The victim regained consciousness in the early hours and when she realized that a crime had been committed, she informed some people in the neighborhood and her family members and lodged a complaint at the Chembur police station.
The officer said that the police have arrested both the accused, 26 and 30 years old, who have been booked under relevant sections and are currently in police custody.
