5.0 magnitude earthquake hits Dominican Republic.


San Juan (Puerto Rico), November 11 (AP) An earthquake of 5.0 magnitude occurred on Friday in the northwestern Dominican Republic near the border with Haiti.

The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter of this earthquake was at a depth of 19 kilometers west-northwest of Las Matas de Santa Cruz.

Officials in the Dominican Republic said the quake was felt as far as the border town of Montecristi, south of the capital Santo Domingo.

Dominican geologist Osiris de Leon said it was the most powerful earthquake to hit the country this year.

Henry Castro, mayor of the northwestern city of Villa Vazquez, wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ that minor damage was reported at two schools due to the earthquake.
