Washington, November 9 (Language) Unhappy with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s recent remarks on women, a popular African-American singer on Thursday sought his resignation and said that the command of the state should be handed over to a woman.
Singer Mary Milben said in a statement here, “I think the time has come for Nitish Kumar to resign. I believe that BJP should empower a woman for leadership in Bihar. This will be a counter action in the true spirit of women empowerment and their development.
Milben is known in India for singing the tunes ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and ‘Om Jai Jagdish Hare’.
He said, “Or it should be done in Bihar as Shahrukh’s character did in the film Jawan and change should be brought about.” You, the people of Bihar, the people of India, have the power to bring a woman into leadership and bring change.
Emphasizing the importance of women’s education for population control, the Bihar Chief Minister had on Tuesday commented in the Assembly on how an educated woman can stop her husband from having physical relations.
Surrounded by criticism for his statement, Nitish Kumar has apologized for his statement.
Milben said, “Today is a defining moment for India. This is very appropriate for Bihar where the values of women are being challenged. And I believe there is only one answer to this challenge. After the comments of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji, I feel that some courageous woman should come forward and present her candidature for the post of Chief Minister of Bihar. If I were a citizen of India, I would have gone to Bihar and staked claim for the post of Chief Minister.
