Hyderabad, November 12 (Language) Ruling BRS MLA Guvvala Balaraju was allegedly attacked during a clash between Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Congress workers in Achampet town of Nagarkurnool district in Telangana. Police gave this information on Sunday.
A complaint by BRS said Balaraju, a candidate from Achampet constituency in the state assembly elections to be held on November 30, suffered “injuries” in the “attack” that took place on Saturday night. The complaint states that Balaraju was taken to a hospital in Hyderabad and was later discharged.
Congress workers also lodged a complaint with the police that some of their colleagues were injured during the clash.
According to the police, Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Congress supporters clashed with each other on Saturday night and stone pelting was also reported during this period. The police immediately intervened and dispersed them.
The incident occurred when the convoy of the BRS MLA returning after election campaign was stopped by some Congress workers. Congress workers alleged that the MLA was going to distribute the money.
Some of them suffered minor injuries in the clash, he said, adding that a vehicle of the BRS leader’s convoy was also damaged.
A senior police officer told PTI that the police registered cases in connection with the incident on Sunday after members of both the parties lodged complaints.
“We are investigating the matter and analyzing the video,” the officer said.
BRS working president and state IT minister K. T. Rama Rao met Balaraju in the hospital on Sunday.
Reacting to the incident, he said, “These are indeed unfortunate incidents. Violence certainly has no place in a democracy. I think this is the frustration of the opposition camp, because they have realized that they are losing the elections.
