Case registered against Mumbai builder for not following pollution control guidelines

Mumbai, Nov 21 (Language) Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against a builder for allegedly not following Bombay High Court guidelines to control air pollution and improve the Air Quality Index (AQI). An official gave this information on Tuesday.

The first such FIR has been lodged against a builder based on a complaint filed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) amid growing concerns over air pollution in the metropolis, he said.

According to the official, the builder – Bharat Reality Ventures Private Limited, allegedly did not follow the guidelines issued by the High Court to control air pollution.

BMC officials found that the builder had not installed 25-foot-high tin sheets to prevent air pollution at a construction site in Vile Parle area, he said.

He said that taking cognizance of this, BMC also issued a notice to stop the work, but the builder did not follow the rules, after which a local body official contacted Santa Cruz police and lodged a complaint.

He said that an FIR was registered on Monday under section 291 of the Indian Penal Code (violation despite order).
