New Delhi, November 10 (Language) Some students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have complained to the university administration over the alleged depiction of King Mahabali in clothes colored with the Palestinian flag in a poster related to the Onam festival. University administration officials gave this information on Friday.
According to officials, these students allege that this has hurt their religious sentiments.
JNU Vice-Chancellor Shantishree Dhulipudi Pandit told PTI, “See how King Mahabali, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, has been portrayed as a political manipulator to support Hamas…. A group of students from Kerala has complained in this regard as it has hurt their sentiments.
The JNU Vice-Chancellor said students have objected to the postponement of the Onam festival celebrations in August and suggested that the upcoming festival of Diwali could have been celebrated instead.
Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union president Aishi Ghosh claimed that no such complaint has been made by the students and alleged that the administration is lying in the face of criticism from several politicians over the cancellation of Onam celebrations at the university’s convention centre.
Aishi Ghosh said that the Onam poster does not specifically show solidarity with Palestine, but rather highlights many other issues around the world.
