Court grants bail to the man who entered the field during the World Cup final


Ahmedabad, November 21 (Language) A court in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Tuesday granted bail to Wayne Johnson, an Australian arrested for entering the field wearing a T-shirt in support of Palestine during the ICC World Cup cricket final.

A day earlier, the court had sent Johnson to police custody for a day.

A senior city crime branch official said Johnson was produced before the court on Tuesday evening which released him on bail on the condition that he cooperates in the investigation and submits his passport to the court.

During the final against Australia on Sunday, when Virat Kohli was at the crease, Johnson escaped from the security cordon and reached the ground of Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The security personnel caught him immediately.

Johnson was arrested by the police on charges of criminal trespass and causing hurt to prevent public servants from performing their duty.

The investigation was handed over to the city crime branch on Monday, which took Johnson’s custody from the police and produced him in a Gandhinagar court seeking his remand for further investigation.
