Mumbai, November 16 (Language) Veteran footballer David Beckham was mesmerized by the energetic atmosphere of the Wankhede Stadium here on Wednesday.
Beckham witnessed the match in which Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record by scoring his 50th century in ODI, Mohammed Shami created a new Indian record by taking seven wickets and India defeated New Zealand by 70 runs to reach the World Cup final.
When Beckham entered the stadium with Sachin Tendulkar, thousands of spectators welcomed him with applause.
Seeing the atmosphere at Wankhede, the star footballer said, “Full of energy, passionate and unbelievable.”
But he was not able to decide whether football fans or cricket fans make more noise.
He said, “You know what?” I will always be a football fan but seeing the atmosphere here today, I can no longer say anything with certainty. The atmosphere here is incredible. The audience has kept the whole atmosphere energetic so I am not sure about it.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video on Thursday in which Beckham said that the experience at the Wankhede Stadium thrilled him.
“I was thrilled as soon as I entered the stadium,” he said. This was something special. It could also be because I was with Sachin which made it more special. But I could feel the energy inside the stadium.
Beckham has come to India as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He has been playing this role since 2005. He described meeting Tendulkar and the players of the Indian team as very special.
He said, “I met Sachin for the first time at Wimbledon and it was very special to meet him then. He is a special person. So it was very special to spend some time with him in his house and also meet the players.
