Mumbai, November 19 (Language) Film ‘Dhoom’ director Sanjay Gadhvi died at his residence here on Sunday morning. His elder daughter Sanjina gave this information. He was 56 years old.
Gadhvi would have celebrated his 57th birthday three days later. He is known for directing the films ‘Dhoom’ (2004) and ‘Dhoom 2′ (2006) in Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom series.
According to Gadhvi’s daughter, the director was ‘completely healthy’.
Sanjeena told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “He died at his residence at 9.30 am today.” We are not sure how this happened, but it is more likely that he may have suffered a heart attack. He was not unwell, he was completely healthy.
Many film personalities, including Kunal Kohli, director of the films ‘Hum Tum’ and ‘Fanaa’, have expressed grief over Gadhvi’s demise on social media.
Kohli posted on ‘X’, “This is very shocking.” May Sanjay Gadhvi’s soul rest in peace, RIP. I never thought that I would have to write your death message. Shared an office and breakfast at YRF for many years, had discussions. Will miss you my friend. It is very difficult to accept this.
Gadhvi made his directorial debut in 2000 with the film ‘Tere Liye’, after which he made ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’ in 2002, which was his first film with Yash Raj Films.
He caught everyone’s attention with his third directorial action-thriller ‘Dhoom’, which popularized motorbiking among the Indian youth in the early 2000s.
The 2002 film was the story of a cat-and-mouse game between a gang of motorbike robbers led by Kabir (John Abraham) and Mumbai Police officer Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan). Jai teams up with Ali (Uday Chopra), a motorbike dealer, to stop this gang. The film also starred Esha Deol and Rimi Sen.
Gadhvi also directed its superhit sequel ‘Dhoom 2’. The 2006 film starred Bachchan, Chopra, Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bipasha Basu.
The film ‘Dhoom-3’ was directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. This 2013 film starred Bachchan, Chopra, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif.
Gadhvi’s films include ‘Kidnap’ (2008), ‘Ajab Gajab Love’ (2012) and ‘Operation Parindey’. ‘Operation Parindey’, released in 2020, was his last directorial film.
