On the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Lok Sabha was suspended till 2 p.m. because voting to choose the 16th President of the nation was still going on. Voting is a festival, according to Speaker Om Birla, and the house procedures will resume afterward.


The Lok Sabha Speaker read out the obituary and paid respect to former MPs as soon as the parliament convened for the day. The group had a two-minute moment of silence.

The house also paid honour to former Kenyan President Mwai Kibak, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and former President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Mr. Birla stated that Mr. Abe was killed on July 8th, during a political rally in Nara, Japan. The Speaker also recalled Abe’s speech to the legislature.
Three newly elected Lok Sabha MPs had already taken the oath.

In addition to Shatrughan Prasad Sinha from Asansol in West Bengal, Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi from Rampur and Dinesh Lal Yadav “Nirauha” from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh also took an oath.
