Five workers killed, three injured as 50-foot high tower collapses in Mexico


Mexico City, November 20 (AP) Five workers were killed and three were injured when a 50-foot-high scaffolding tower collapsed during construction related to a road project in central Mexico. Officials gave this information on Sunday.

On Saturday, the workers were working on pouring cement between the security walls being built on both sides of the highway. But during this time the ‘Scaffolding Tower’ collapsed and the workers died after getting trapped in the iron, metal and wet cement.

The transport department said the accident occurred in the central state of Hidalgo and that all personnel at the scene had been rescued from the debris.

This construction work was being done by a private contractor. At present the investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
