Lucknow, November 6 (Language) The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court pulled up senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Swami Prasad Maurya for his interpretation of some quatrains of Ramcharit Manas and said that they should be understood in the right perspective.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court said that Maurya has the right to give his own independent interpretation different from the explanations of many scholars but he cannot use such language which may hurt the religious sentiments of any community.
A bench of Justice Subhash Vidyarthi made the above observation in its judgment while dismissing Maurya’s plea seeking quashing of criminal proceedings pending in Pratapgarh court in the case of allegedly burning copies of Ramcharitmanas.
Refusing to quash the criminal proceedings, the bench said that as per the records a prima facie case is made out against them and hence, the trial court proceedings cannot be quashed.
Earlier, Maurya had defended his controversial interpretations of the quadruples and tried to convince the bench that it was freedom of expression.
Based on the complaint by lawyer Santosh Kumar Mishra, an FIR was registered against Maurya, SP MLA RK Verma and others.
