High Court seeks Maharashtra government’s response on petitions against order to increase OBC reservation

Mumbai, Nov 8 (PTI) The Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the Maharashtra government to file its reply on petitions challenging the March 23, 1994 government resolution (GR) increasing reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

A division bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Arif Doctor gave the government time till December 10 to file its affidavit and fixed the next hearing on January 3, 2024.

The petitions claimed that reservation for OBCs was increased in 1994 without following proper procedure.

Incidentally, the issue of OBC reservation has come to the fore in recent months when some Maratha reservation activists are demanding reservation for their community in the OBC category and other OBC leaders are opposing this demand.
