Hope ICC suspension won’t affect our program: Sri Lanka captain


Colombo, November 12 (Language) Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis on Sunday expressed hope that the suspension of the country’s cricket body by the ICC will lead to the upcoming events of the national team and the Men’s Under-19 World Cup to be held here early next year. There will be no impact on the preparations.

Sri Lanka have a busy schedule next year, starting with a limited overs series against Zimbabwe in January-February. The 2024 Men’s Under-19 World Cup will begin on January 13 in Sri Lanka with 16 teams competing.

Sri Lanka is in turmoil after the Mendis-led team’s disappointing exit from the World Cup in India.

Mendis told the media after returning from India, “We hope that the suspension will end soon so that we will be able to practice for our upcoming program.” It will also be good for hosting the Under-19 World Cup. ,

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday suspended full member Sri Lanka following government intervention.
