Tokyo, November 13 (AP) Japan’s Deputy Finance Minister resigned from his post on Monday amid allegations of tax evasion.
Deputy Finance Minister Kenji Kanda had responsibility for government bonds and monetary policy. He is the third minister to resign after the cabinet reshuffle in September.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told reporters that he took responsibility for appointing Kanda.
“I must apologize to the people that a deputy finance minister had to resign immediately after assuming his post,” he said.
Kanda, a former tax accountant, admitted that authorities had seized his company’s land and property four times between 2013 and 2022 after it failed to pay real estate tax. Information about the case was received from an article published in a weekly magazine.
