Thane (Maharashtra), November 7 (Language) A court in Thane district of Maharashtra has sentenced a 44-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his minor step-daughter.
Special judge Dr. Rachna Tehra, who is hearing cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict in the order passed on Monday.
Special public prosecutor Sandhya Mhatre told the court that the accused, a resident of Mumbra area of Thane, had committed the crime in 2020, when the victim was six years old.
When the girl’s mother went out for work, the accused would also threaten and drive away the victim’s nine-year-old brother. After this he repeatedly raped the step daughter.
The prosecution said the accused had burnt the private and other parts of the victim’s body with candles and matchsticks.
The judge accepted the prosecution’s arguments and convicted the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act-2015.
Police said five prosecution witnesses, including the victim and her mother, were examined in the case.
Mhatre said that the judge in his order said that the prosecution has successfully proved all the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt and for the same he should be convicted and sentenced.
