Nashik, Nov 4 (PTI) A Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) official has been arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 crore to release the pending payment of a contractor in Ahmednagar. A senior officer of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) gave this information on Saturday.
Amit Kishore Gaikwad (32), the accused assistant engineer of MIDC (Ahmednagar), had demanded bribe from the contractor to approve the final bill of Rs 2,66,99,244 for the pipeline work done in Ahmednagar MIDC area.
According to Anti-Corruption Bureau officials, Gaikwad had demanded bribe for himself and the SDE to approve the backdated bill and obtain the signature of the then Sub-Divisional Engineer (SDE).
“Amit Gaikwad was arrested on November 3 while taking bribe in a contractor’s vehicle near Ahmednagar-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar bypass road (180 km from here),” ACB (Mumbai) Additional Director General Vishwas Nangre Patil said at a press conference here. Was.”
A case has been registered in this regard at MIDC police station of Ahmednagar and the then SDE is being searched.
ACB is observing Vigilance Public Awareness Week from October 30 to November 5.
