Sao Paulo, November 15 (AP) Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, close friends who played together in Barcelona, will face each other in the World Cup football qualifiers.
Messi, who has recovered from a foot injury, will play in the World Cup 2026 qualifying group tournament. 36 year old Suarez has returned to Uruguay after playing Brazilian League.
Reigning champions Argentina will face two-time former champions Uruguay in Buenos Aires.
The Brazilian team will play in Colombia. They were held to a draw by Venezuela in their home match and were defeated by Uruguay in their last two qualifying matches.
Brazilian coach Fernando Diniz may give a chance to young Anderique for the first time.
Argentina leads the 10-team South American qualifying group with 12 points, while Uruguay, Brazil and Venezuela have seven points each.
The next World Cup will be held in America, Mexico and Canada in which 48 teams will play. The top six teams from South America will be seen in it. The seventh-place team will play the inter-subcontinental playoff.
