Navi Mumbai APMC businessman cheats woman farmer of Rs 5.7 lakh

Thane (Maharashtra), November 6 (Language) An Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) businessman in Navi Mumbai has allegedly defrauded a 39-year-old strawberry farming woman in Pune of Rs 5.7 lakh. Police gave this information on Monday.

The accused, living in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, had contacted the strawberry farmer and demanded to supply the fruit on credit.

Since it was her first time doing business with the accused, the woman had also asked one of her relatives to find out whether the accused was really a businessman of Vashi APMC.

An APMC police station official said that after investigation, the woman supplied fruits worth Rs 5.7 lakh to the accused businessman from November 2022 to February 2023.

He told that the accused was asked several times to pay for the goods but he did not pay. After this the woman lodged a complaint with the police.

Police on Saturday registered a case against the businessman under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
