Policemen will be deployed in BHU for the safety of students


Varanasi (UP), November 3 (Language) Police personnel will be deployed to ensure the safety of students in the Kashi Hindu University (BHU) campus.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Praveen Kumar Singh of Bhelupur in Varanasi gave this information. He said that Lanka police station in-charge (SHO) Ashwini Pandey has been put on the line for dereliction of duty in the case of alleged sexual harassment of a student in the university campus recently.

ACP Singh said that a meeting was held with BHU officials and it has been decided to deploy policemen at certain places to prevent entry of outsiders into the campus and prevent any untoward incident. Apart from the four main entry gates of the university, police personnel will also be deployed at some other places on the campus, he said.

He said that at present, the campus is being protected by guards deployed by the university administration.

Singh said that the police have formed several teams to identify and arrest the accused who molested the student. He said footage from CCTV cameras installed in and around the campus were being scrutinized and “mobile phone surveillance” was also being used.
