Pune (Maharashtra), November 4 (Language) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested on the university campus here against the painting of an “objectionable” mural on Prime Minister Narendra Modi inside the hostel of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Four students of a leftist organization were injured in the clash.
Police said that the incident took place on Friday afternoon near the main building of the university. This building houses the administrative office of the university.
“Hundreds of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters protested at the university on Friday after an objectionable mural on the Prime Minister was found inside the hostel,” a police officer said. However, the protest turned violent when four students from a leftist organization came to the protest site.
He said that a clash took place during the demonstration in which four students of ‘New Socialist Alternative’ were injured.
He said that the police later detained these four students and released them in the evening.
In a video of the incident that surfaced on social media, four students from a leftist organization were seen with flags of their organization at the BJP protest site. When BJP workers raised slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, these four students raised slogans of ‘Inquilab Zindabad’.

According to police, graffiti against Prime Minister Modi was found inside the hostel on Thursday.
BJP’s Pune unit president Dheeraj Ghate said, “Objectionable material against our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is absolutely not acceptable. Many students who are not part of SPPU are roaming within the campus. We demand strict action against those who paint objectionable murals on the Prime Minister. Pune city is the capital of education. We will not allow our university to become JNU.
A case was registered on Friday under section 294 (objectionable acts and songs) and section 500 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code against an unidentified person for allegedly painting the graffiti, an official of Chaturshringi police station said. Has gone.
