Purchases from GeM portal cross Rs 2 lakh crore in the current financial year


New Delhi, November 13 (Language) Due to increase in purchases by various ministries and departments, the purchase of goods and services from the government ‘e-Marketplace’ (GeM) has crossed Rs 2 lakh crore so far in the current financial year.

GeM portal was launched on August 9, 2016 for online purchase of goods and services by all ministries and departments of the Central Government.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal wrote on social media platform ‘X’ that a historic achievement for GeM. In just eight months of 2023-24, the purchase figure from this platform has crossed Rs 2 lakh crore.

The purchase price in the financial year 2021-22 was Rs 1.06 lakh crore. Last financial year it had crossed Rs 2 lakh crore and in the current financial year it may cross Rs 3 lakh crore.

GeM has more than 63,000 government buyer organizations and more than 62 lakh sellers and service providers. At present, government departments, ministries, public sector units, state governments and central armed police forces are allowed to transact through this portal. From office stationery to vehicles can be purchased on this portal.
