Colombo, November 10 (Language) Chief selector Pramodaya Wickremesinghe on Friday alleged that there was an external conspiracy behind Sri Lanka’s poor performance in the World Cup.
The Sri Lankan cricket team returned from India on Friday morning. They were defeated by New Zealand by five wickets in the last group match in Bengaluru.
When asked about the reasons for his poor performance, Wickremesingha said, “Give me two days’ time.” Then I will tell you everything. This is the result of an external conspiracy.
He said, “I am very sad.” I take responsibility for this.
The Sri Lankan team could win only two out of nine matches in the World Cup, which is its worst performance so far. Against India, the team was out for 56 runs.
After this the Sports Minister dismissed the entire operational unit but after an appeal in the court it was reinstated.
On Thursday, the government and the opposition tabled a joint resolution in Parliament demanding the resignation of the Sri Lankan cricket management.
