State GST conducts search operation in Colgate-Palmolive warehouse in Chennai, fine of Rs 1 lakh imposed


New Delhi, November 21 (Language) State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) officer has conducted a search operation at the warehouse of Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited, a manufacturer of daily-use household goods, in Chennai. The company said it has been fined Rs 1 lakh for ‘minor compliance violations’.

The company said in a filing to the stock exchange that the search operation conducted on November 16-17 was initiated as per the provisions of Section 67 of the Tamil Nadu Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.

Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd said, “…the State Goods and Services Tax Officer, Chennai has conducted a search operation at the company’s Chennai warehouse from November 16 to November 17, 2023.”

“A penalty of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed for minor procedural non-compliance under Section 125 of the CGST Act and SGST Act…,” the company said.

Colgate-Palmolive said its business operations were continuing as normal. He “has fully cooperated with the department during the search operation.”
