Aizawl, November 15 (Language) Hundreds of students in Mizoram demonstrated for the second consecutive day on Wednesday demanding immediate distribution of scholarship amount.
The protesters, under the aegis of apex student body Mizo Zirlai Pawal (MZP), are staging a sit-in in front of the scholarship board office here.
They are demanding immediate distribution of scholarship amount to 19,495 students studying in and outside the state.
MZP, which is leading the protest, said it will intensify its protest from Thursday and prevent scholarship board officials from entering the office.
MZP president H Lalthianglima claimed that the Mizoram government has received funds worth Rs 17.87 crore from the Center on September 25 for the distribution of scholarships.
The board said it will have to take permission from the Election Commission as the Model Code of Conduct is in force in Mizoram due to the assembly elections held on November 7. Counting of votes will take place on December 3.
