Thane, November 9 (Language) Local people pelted stones at a Mumbai Police team that had gone to arrest an alleged criminal in Thane, Maharashtra, in which 10 policemen were injured. An official gave this information on Thursday.
He said a team of Mumbai’s Andheri police station reached Irani Basti area in Ambivali near Kalyan on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday to arrest a person involved in a serious crime.
According to the officer, the news of police arrival spread in the area and many local people, including women, pelted stones at them.
According to the in-charge of Khadakpada police station in Kalyan, the policemen were not familiar with the area and at least 10 policemen were injured in the incident, he said.
The officer said that in the past also several police teams have been attacked in Irani Basti while allegedly trying to arrest criminals.
He said that a case has been registered regarding the attack on the police team.
