The massacre of about 100 people in Burkina Faso should be investigated: European Union.

Dakar, November 13 (AP) The European Union has called for an investigation into the massacre of about 100 civilians, including women and children, in the African country Burkina Faso.

The European Union said in a statement on Sunday that the killings took place in the village of Zango in the central north earlier this month.

“The European Union calls on the authorities of the interim administration to investigate the circumstances of these killings in order to determine responsibility,” the statement said.

It is not clear who carried out the attack. The government of Burkina Faso did not comment when asked in this regard.

The West African country has for years been battling jihadist extremists linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group. Thousands of people have been killed in these conflicts and more than 2 million people have been internally displaced.
