Patna, November 5 (Language) Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar on Sunday said that the Ethics Committee of Parliament has summoned Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramesh Bidhuri has been summoned. No concrete action was taken against him, which shows the ‘double standards’ of the Central Government.
He said this on the occasion of the launch of the book “India’s Experiment with Democracy – The Life of Nation through its Elections” by former Chief Election Commissioner of India SY Qureshi.
Iyer said, “The country is passing through a very important phase. Our democracy is in danger. The spirit of the Indian Constitution must be protected. Our three pillars of democracy – legislature, executive and judiciary – need to remain strong.
He asked why the present government at the Center is adopting double standards in dealing with Moitra and Bidhuri.
