Mumbai, November 4 (Language) Mumbai Police, which is investigating the sending of threatening e-mails to Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani, on Saturday arrested two youths from Telangana and Gujarat. The officers provided this information.
Officials said that both the accused had demanded Rs 900 crore from Ambani in six different e-mails sent in the last eight days.
Senior officials said that as per preliminary investigation, the accused do not know each other and they work separately.
He told that these e-mails were sent to the official e-mail ID of Ambani’s company in the last eight days and he was threatened with death if payment was not made.
According to the official, one of the two accused, identified as Ganesh Ramesh Vanarapati (19), was caught by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch from Warangal in Telangana. Whereas, the second person was caught from Gujarat and he has been identified as Rajveer Singh Khant (20).
He said that it was revealed that the accused had used different email IDs.
The official clarified that the accused arrested from Gujarat was identified as Rajveer Khant and not Shadab Khan as a police officer had said earlier in the day.
According to investigation, Khant had used an e-mail ID created in the name Shadab Khan.
“Khant was using an email ID created in the name Shadab Khan,” the officer said. “He had sent five e-mails to Ambani demanding Rs 400 crore, while Vanarapati had sent one email to Ambani demanding Rs 500 crore.”
According to the police, on October 27, Ambani’s office had received an e-mail in which the sender had demanded Rs 20 crore, saying, “If you (Ambani) will not give us Rs 20 crore, we will kill you.” Will kill with. We have the best shooters in India.”
Police said another e-mail was received the next day demanding Rs 200 crore, with a threat that “if the demands are not met, a death warrant will be issued.”
An FIR was lodged at Gadevi police station based on the complaint of the industrialist’s security in-charge.
Ambani’s company on Monday received another threatening e-mail from an unknown person, demanding Rs 400 crore.
Vanarapati was produced in a court here, from where he was sent to police custody till November 8. Another accused, Khan, is a highly educated student, the police officer said.
According to the official, both the accused have been arrested under sections 387 (putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the case has been registered. Further investigation is underway.
