UP: Girl commits suicide after being pressured to withdraw rape case


Muzaffarnagar, November 15 (Language) A teenage girl, who had filed a case of sexual harassment against a man in Shamli, adjacent to Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, committed suicide by consuming poison due to alleged pressure to withdraw the case.

Shamli Additional Superintendent of Police OP Singh said on Wednesday that the incident took place on Tuesday in a village under Jhinjhana police station area of ​​Shamli district, where a 16-year-old alleged rape victim committed suicide by consuming poison.

According to Singh, the girl had filed a case of sexual harassment against a man named Talib, which is pending in the court.

He said that on the complaint of the girl’s father, the police have registered a case against Talib on charges of abetment to suicide.

According to Singh, in the complaint the girl’s father has alleged that Talib was pressurizing his daughter to withdraw the case pending in the court.

He said that last year the police had arrested Talib on charges of sexually assaulting the girl, but he later got bail from the court.

Singh said that the police is trying to arrest the absconding accused.
