San Francisco, November 16 (Language) Indian-origin American MP Shri Thanedar has asked the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for immediate assistance in the ongoing operation to rescue 40 employees trapped in a tunnel in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Requested to provide.
Relief and rescue operations are underway to rescue 40 workers trapped in the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.
“This tragic incident in Uttarakhand is not just a local crisis, it is a humanitarian concern that demands global attention and action,” Thanedar said. “The United States, with its advanced technology and expertise in rescue operations, has the ability to make a significant impact in these efforts and potentially save lives.”
The Silkyara tunnel collapsed on 12 November. Despite the tireless efforts of local rescue teams, the rescue operation has not been successful so far due to the challenging conditions.
To speed up the rescue operations, a heavy auger drilling machine has been transported to the tunnel under construction with the help of Hercules aircraft of the Indian Air Force. Besides, with the help of other machines, the process of removing debris is going on on a war footing.
“As someone with deep ties to India, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to ensure that America steps up in this time of need,” Thanedar said. “Our partnership can not only aid in immediate rescue efforts, but also further strengthen the strong ties between the United States and India.”
Thanedar has requested USAID to hold direct talks with India to discuss possible avenues of US assistance during the crisis.
He has requested USAID to also inform him about the action taken by it in this matter.
The American lawmaker said, “The people trapped in the tunnel need our support along with their families. It is vital that we act now. I am committed to doing whatever I can to facilitate this international collaboration and assist those in need.”
