Kolkata, November 11 (Language) England captain Jos Buttler ruled out the possibility of a radical change in the team after the disappointing performance in the World Cup, saying here on Saturday that their aim would be to become the top team in the world again.
England ended their campaign on a positive note by defeating Pakistan by 93 runs in their final league match here and qualified for the Champions Trophy in 2025. England, batting first, made a strong score of 337 runs for nine wickets. In response, Pakistan team was out after scoring 244 runs in 43.3 overs.
Butler said after the match, “It felt good to end with a win.” Overall this World Cup was disappointing for us but in the final match we showed our true potential. ,
He said, “I don’t think there will be a radical change in our plan this time like 2015.” There are some things that need to change and do something new. This doesn’t mean there will be much change but we have to work to become a top team again.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam said his team will review its World Cup performance and look at its positive aspects.
Babar said, “We gave away too many runs and bowled some loose balls in the last overs. The pitch was good but our spinners failed to take wickets in the middle overs which did not help us.
He said, “We will review the performance of this tournament. We will look at its positive aspects and discuss the mistakes.
England fast bowler David Willey, playing his last ODI match, was chosen man of the match. He completed 100 wickets in ODI cricket in this match.
Willey said, “We were not able to perform as per our strategy throughout the tournament, which is disappointing.” As far as I am concerned, it was great to perform well in my last match and complete 100 wickets.
